Why Go Greek?

Academic Excellence
Scholastic achievement is central to the mission of each sorority at Southeast. Each chapter places a strong emphasis on promoting academic achievement by challenging its members to live up to high expectations. Each chapter works hard to promote an atmosphere conducive to this achievement such as study sessions, quiet areas for study within each house, tutoring sessions and various educational programs and awards.

Community Service and Philanthropy
Community Service is a vital aspect of the Greek system. All fraternities and sororities at Southeast take pride in their individual philanthropic events. Along with these individual events, Southeast Greeks work together to strengthen their relationship with the community comes together during Greek Week to raise money for multiple national and local charities. Participation in these community service events provides a common purpose in which all Greeks can take pride.

Leadership
The development of leaders is another of the many goals of the Greek organizations at Southeast. Each chapter is self-governed and offers its members the opportunity to learn and improve his or her own leadership skills through various executive positions within the Greek system. Members of each individual chapter consistently work together in groups to plan activities, solve problems and make decisions for the advancement of their organization. At Southeast, to be Greek means to lead.

Sisterhood and Brotherhood
Membership in a sorority or fraternity is for life. Each organization provides a unique bond often referred to as brotherhood or sisterhood. This bond is nurtured and strengthened through shared work, community service projects, intramural activities, and the successes and frustrations of a self-governing group of men and women. It is possible to select a sorority or fraternity with almost any character or combination of characteristics desired. The four years of Greek experience in college are only the beginning of the experiences to be had as a result of Greek affiliations.

Social Life
One of the goals of each sorority and fraternity is to provide members the opportunity to develop friendships that will last a lifetime. Being Greek offers a number of wonderful opportunities for social interaction. Along with Homecoming and Greek Week, each sorority and fraternity offer their own social events throughout the year. Some of these events include formal, Family Weekend, Mom and Dad's Day, Initiation dances, and more.

Activities
Each individual chapter plans and participates in many activities throughout the year. Twice a year the Greek community unites for some friendly competition. In the fall, Homecoming offers the opportunity for float building, window painting, and spirit competitions. In these activities sororities and fraternities are paired up to work cooperatively. In the spring, Greek Week is another event that allows Greek organizations to pair up and raise money for charitable organizations. Through these activities the Greek community is able to maintain chapter pride, creativity, and individualism.

Intramurals
Southeast Greeks participate in a comprehensive intramural system in which athletes of all calibers find a place where they have fun and find physical challenge. In each category, chapters compete for sports points. Southeast is proud to have an exceptional intramural sports program, complemented by the state-of-the-art Recreation Center and numerous playing fields and gyms. Whatever your sport or skill level, you'll always find an opportunity to participate on a team in the Greek Intramural League. The competition is great and the sports are diverse, there is definitely a place for you.
